History and description
Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero, initially called Estadio Departamental, opened on 20 July 1937 with a tournament of Panamerican teams.
The stadium could initally hold 6,500 spectators and consisted of just two stands on the sides, but got expanded in 1950 and 1954 including the construction of new stands at both ends.
Further extensions in the 1960s and a large redevelopment in 1971 turned the stadium into a two-tiered bowl with a capacity of 61,000 spectators.
By the 1990s, the state of the stadium had significantly deteriorated and was closed for various years. It got patched up in the 2000s, but it took until 2010 and the upcoming U-20s World Cup for a large redevelopment to modernise the stadium.
Estadio Pascual Guerrero is one of the Colombian playing venues of the 2021 Copa America. The stadium had earlier already hosted matches during the 2001 Copa America.
