History and description
Estádio Cidade de Coimbra got built to serve as one of the playing venues of the 2004 European Championships. It got almost completely rebuilt from Académica’s old stadium that had stood on the same site.
Estadio Cidade de Coimbra officially (re)opened on 12 September 2003. The first event was a Rolling Stones concert. The first football match got played a few weeks later, on 29 October, between Académica and Benfica (1-3).
The stadium hosted two group matches during the Euro 2004 tournament.
In 2011, Estádio Cidade de Coimbra hosted the Portuguese Cup final.
How to get to Estadio Cidade de Coimbra
Estádio Cidade de Coimbra is located toward the east of the city of Coimbra at less than two kilometres from the historic city centre. The stadium lies right next to a large shopping mall.
The walk from the city centre can be done in less than half an hour. The walk from the eastern side of the botanical gardens will likely take less than 15 minutes.
There are many options to reach the stadium by bus. Bus 34 (to Polo II) and 26 (to Chão do Bispo) connect the stadium with the eastern side of the city centre (the University area), whereas bus 11 and 24 (to B. Norton de Matos) can be taken from the northern parts of the centre.
From the train station in the city centre (Coimbra-A) you can catch bus 7T (to Tovim). Get off at stop Estádio Municipal. From the other train station (Coimbra-B – where the long-distance trains arrive) take bus 5 to Estádio Municipal.
Bus 41 connects the stadium with the other side of the River Mondego (and the southern side of the city centre).

Academica Coimbra Tickets
Tickets for Académica matches can be bought at the Club Shop at Estádio Cidade de Coimbra. Ticket will also be available on the gate on the day of the match.
Ticket prices depends on the opponent, but for a typical match range from €10.00 for a seat behind the goal to €25.00 for an upper-tier seat at one of the long sides.
