Last Saturday Houston Dynamo’s new BBVA Compass Stadium for the first time opened its doors for the players, media and fans. About 2,000 Dynamo supporters showed up for a training session of the team that was accompanied by a ribbon cutting and various speeches.
The training session was a prelude for next Saturday when the first match at the stadium will pit the Dynamo against DC United. The Dynamo previously played at the Robertson Stadium of the University of Houston, but have started the 2012 season with a run of 7 away matches.
The Dynamo, league champions in 2006 and 2007, are coming off a mediocre start of the season, but hope that the inauguration of their new home will reverse their fortunes.
The BBVA Compass Stadium holds a total of 22,000 bright orange seats. The opening match on Saturday has already old out. A few weeks later the Dynamo will receive Spanish side Valencia for a friendly.
