The London US Embassy has stated not to have any problems with Chelsea building a new stadium at the Battersea Power Station site. Earlier, The Sun had reported that diplomats thought the idea of thousands of people walking by the planned new embassy a too-high security risk.
The US embassy is set to move from its current Grosvenor Square site to a new site on the banks of the river Thames, which is about half a mile away from Chelsea’s proposed new stadium.
The news, however, was directly followed by a statement from the US Embassy that:
… neither the U.S. Embassy in London nor the Department of State in Washington intervened to block the Chelsea Football Club’s bid to buy the Battersea Power Station. In fact, the Embassy has been generally supportive of initiatives to bring development and jobs to the Wandsworth and Battersea areas.
