The AFG Arena hosted its first match on 30 May 2008 when the national teams of Switzerland and Liechtenstein played a friendly (3-0). The new stadium officially opened a month later on the 5th of July.

In 2016, the stadium changed name from AFG Arena to kybunpark following a new naming rights sponsorship deal.
