Brighton & Hove Albion FC have stated their intention to file for permission to increase The Amex’s capacity to about 30,000 seats. Plans also include a new training ground at New Monks Farm.
The Amex, also called Falmer Stadium, was only completed last summer, however with Brighton’s rise to the Championship and desire to challenge for a Premier League spot, the club says a capacity increase is imperative in realising these ambitions.
The Amex currently holds 22,500 seats, however the design allows for an easy expansion to 30,000 seats. Transport may be an issue though, with queues for trains and buses currently running up to 50 minutes, however chairman Martin Perry already stated that fans need to be “realistic” in accepting delays.
Brighton expects to have the planning applications ready by April, after which the city council will consider the plans.
