KAA Gent will have to wait one more year before it will be able to play in its new home. This announced the local city government of Gent on Monday. Gent had previously hoped to occupy the Arteveldestadion, which will be able to seat 20,000 fans, at the start of the 2012/2013 season, however this will now be one year later.
The construction project, originally planned to be finished in 2006, has been plagued by delays over the last decade, among which financing problems and environmental concerns. The new delays are due to legal problems with a previous contractor, and delays in the construction of a bridge over the adjacent canal.
