History and description
Stade Rene-Gaillard got built in 1974 as the new municipal stadium of the town of Niort. It included an athletics track around the pitch so it could host athletics events as well.
The stadium recorded its highest attendance of 16,715 during the 1987/1988 season when Marseille visited Niort.
Apart from a small refurbishment in the mid 2000s, Stade Rene-Gaillard has hardly changed since its inauguration. Ill-suited for football matches, the club has looked into building a new modern stadium at various times in the last two decades, but no concrete plans exist at the moment.
How to get to Stade Rene-Gaillard
Stade Rene-Gaillard is located in the east of the town of Niort at just under 2 kilometres from its town centre. Niort’s main railway station lies a little further away at just under 3 kilometres from the stadium.
