History and description

Estadi Municipal de Montilivi officially opened on 14 August 1970 with a friendly between Girona and Barcelona. The stadium replaced the old Campo Alegre.

The stadium remained pretty much unchanged in the next decades and then slowly fell into disrepair. When the club got promoted to the Segunda Division in 2008, it therefore was in urgent need of an upgrade.

New seats got installed and the facilities underwent a refurbishment. Works were completed with the construction of a new East Stand, which opened in 2010.
