Allianz Stadion is the recently opened\u00a0new stadium of Rapid Wien. It replaces the old Gerhard Hanappi Stadion<\/a>, which stood at the same site.<\/p>\n

Plans for the new stadium were confirmed in early 2014, and demolition of the old stadium started later in the year. Allianz Stadion officially opened on 13 July 2016 with a friendly between Rapid Wien and Chelsea (2-0).<\/p>\n

Allianz Stadion has an all-seater capacity of 24,000 seats, which gets increased to 28,600 when part of the seating is converted into standing places. The stadium furthermore has 2,500 business seats and 40 VIP lodges.<\/p>\n

In June 2014, Rapid announced a sponsorship deal with insurance firm Allianz, resulting in the name Allianz Stadion for the new arena.<\/p>\n

How to get to Allianz Stadion<\/h3>\n

Allianz\u00a0Stadion is located in the west of Vienna, about 8 kilometres form the city centre.<\/p>\n

Metro<\/a> station H\u00fctteldorf lies right next to Allianz Stadion. H\u00fctteldorf can be reached by taking line U4 from the city\u00a0centre (e.g. from stations Karlplatz and Schwedenplatz). H\u00fctteldorf is the last station on the line, the ride takes about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

An alternative is tram 49, which can be boarded near the Museums Quartier. Take the tram in the direction of H\u00fctteldorf, you will pass right in front of the ground. The journey takes about half an hour.<\/p>\n

Finally, there are several overground rail (S-Bahn<\/a>) connections to the stadium, which all go to station H\u00fctteldorf. Line S50 connects with Westbahnhof rail station, line S15 with S\u00fcdbahnhof rail station and station Praterstern near the Prater park, and line S45 with destinations north of the historic centre.<\/p>\n
