History and description<\/h3>\n

The MDCC-Arena, previously called Stadion Magdeburg, was built to provide Magdeburg with a modern home. It replaced the old\u00a0Ernst-Grube Stadion, which had stood at the same site.<\/p>\n

Construction of the new stadium started in 2005, and the new Stadion Magdeburg\u00a0officially opened on 10 December 2006. The first match was played 9\u00a0days later when Magdeburg hosted Eintracht Braunschweig in a friendly (0-0).<\/p>\n

In 2009, Stadion Magdeburg\u00a0changed name to MDCC-Arena following a naming rights sponsorship deal with local telecommunications firm MDCC.<\/p>\n
