Suncorp Stadium, also known as Brisbane Stadium and Lang Park, got built in the 1910s at the site of a former burial ground to provide the citizens of Brisbane with recreational facilities.

Named Lang Park after Reverend John Dunmore Lang, who had been instrumental in bringing immigrants to Brisbane in the mid 19th century, the site held multiple sports facilities including cycling and athletics tracks. From the 1930s onwards soccer was regularly played at the ground.

In 1962, the ground turned into an actual stadium with the construction of the Frank Burke Stand and stopped being a public recreational facility. In 1975, the new Ron McAulife Stand was built and in 1994 the Frank Burke Stand got replaced with a new Western Grandstand. In those decades, the stadium was mainly used for rugby and soccer.

In the late 1990s, plans were made by the city of Brisbane for a state-of-the-art stadium that was to replace Lang Park, though parts of the new Grandstand were incorporated in the designs of the new stadium. Works commenced in 2001 and were completed in 2003.

In the 1990s, the stadium had already been renamed Suncorp Stadium following a naming rights sponsorship deal.

Suncorp Stadium is located in central Brisbane just west of the central business district (CBD) and just north of the South Bank of the Brisbane River.

The stadium lies at walking distance of Brisbane’s CBD, a 20 to 30 minutes’ walk from most places including Brisbane Central rail station. The walk from the South Bank takes 15 to 30 minutes.

How to get to Suncorp Stadium
