Club: Hibernian FC | Opening: 1893 | Capacity: 20,250 seats

Easter Road Stadium opened on 4 February 1893 with a match between Hibernian and Clyde.

In the next decades, Hibernian regularly contemplated moving to another site, but finally decided in 1922 to stay at the ground. Two years later three banks of terraces and a main stand were erected.

Easter Road Stadium recorded its highest attendance in 1950 when 65,860 fans attended the derby versus Hearts.

Minor improvements to the stadium were made in the 1950s and 1960s, but few in the decades following. By the late 1980s, the state of Easter Road had significantly deteriorated and safety measures had reduced capacity to about 27,000.

In the early 1990s, Hibernian considered moving to a brand new stadium, however plans were abandoned in 1994, and one year later a redevelopment of Easter Road was started. Two new stands were built behind the goals, and the rest of the stadium was converted into an all-seater.

The redevelopment of Easter Road continued in the 2000s, first when a new West Stand was built in 2001, and most recently in 2010 when the new East Stand opened.
