Stade de Suisse was built at the site of Bern’s famous Wankdorfstadion<\/a>. The old stadium got demolished in 2001, after which was started with the construction of the new one.<\/p>\n

Stade de Suisse officially opened on 30 July 2005. A first test match had already been played 14 days earlier when Young Boys took on Olympique de Marseille (2-3).<\/p>\n

The stadium was one of the playing venues of the Euro 2008<\/a> championships, during which it hosted three group matches.<\/p>\n

Stade de Suisse has had an artificial pitch<\/a> since 2006, though it was replaced with a natural one for the European Championships.<\/p>\n

How to get to Stade de Suisse<\/h3>\n

Stade de Suisse is located in the north of Bern, about 2.5 kilometres from the city centre and main railway station.<\/p>\n

The stadium can be reached by taking exit Wankdorf from either the A1 or A6. From there follow the signs to the stadium.<\/p>\n

There are various ways to get to the stadium by public transport. From the main railway station you can take tram<\/a> 9 in the direction of Guisanplatz, which is also where you get off.<\/p>\n

You can also take one of the various S-Bahn<\/a> (commuter rail) lines to Bern Wankdorf station. Line S1, S2, S3, S4, S31, and S44 all connect with the station.\u2019<\/p>\n

Finally, you can also take bus 20 to Wankdorf Bahnhof.<\/p>\n
