Est\u00e1dio Municipal de Braga, since 2007 unofficially renamed Est\u00e1dio AXA, was built to serve as a playing venue for the Euro 2004<\/a> Championships.<\/p>\n Estadio Municipal de Braga officially opened on 30 December 2003 with a friendly match between Braga and Celta de Vigo.<\/p>\n The stadium hosted two first round group matches during the Euro 2004 tournament.<\/p>\n Est\u00e1dio Municipal de Braga\u00a0was designed by Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and has received many plaudits for its daring design. It has been\u00a0carved out of a rock at the site of a former quarry and only consists of two lateral stands, which are connected to each other by a number of steel strings.<\/p>\n
