Kybunpark, previously known as AFG Arena, replaced St. Gallen’s old Espenmoos Stadion, which lacked the facilities of modern era stadiums.

Planning for the construction of a new home for FC St. Gallen started in 2001, and four years later, in 2005, the club received the definite building permit. Soon after construction began, which was completed in 2008.

The AFG Arena hosted its first match on 30 May 2008 when the national teams of Switzerland and Liechtenstein played a friendly (3-0). The new stadium officially opened a month later on the 5th of July.

The stadium is part of a larger complex that includes a shopping centre underneath the stadium, and an IKEA next door. The costs of the AFG Arena were CHF69 million, while the whole complex costed CHF 271 million.

In 2016, the stadium changed name from AFG Arena to kybunpark following a new naming rights sponsorship deal.

Kybunpark is located on an out of town retail park in between the cities of St Gallen and Gossau. The stadium lies approximately 5.5 kilometres west of the centre and rail station of St Gallen, and 4 kilometres east of the centre and rail station of Gossau.

The stadium is situated adjacent to the A1 motorway. Take exit 80 St Gallen / Winkeln and turn almost immediately into the underground parking lot.

Kybunpark can be easily reached with public transportation. The region’s Thurbo light rail connects the stadium with St Gallen and Gossau rail station. Take either line S1 or S5 and get off at stop SG Winkeln. From there it is a short walk to the stadium.

Alternatively, you can catch bus 151, which runs between the central rail stations of Gossau and St Gallen. The bus ride takes about just as long as that of the light rail (20 minutes), but the bus stops right in front of the stadium.
